A transformative postgraduate degree designed to integrate psychological science with health, social, and community perspectives. The curriculum combines foundational training in psychology with a focus on public health, epidemiology, sociology of illness, gender studies, health communication, and community mental health.
The program comprises of four semesters covering:
- Core psychology papers in Semester I & II
- Two specializations – students specialize in any one pathway in Semester III & IV:
- Psychological & Behavioural Health
- Community Mental Health
Semesters 1 and 2 build a common foundation in psychological science for all students. From Semester 3 onwards, you choose one specialization — Psychological & Behavioral Health or Community Mental Health — and follow that track through to your dissertation.
An MA Psychology degree equips you with advanced knowledge in human behaviour, mental health, and evidence-based interventions, preparing you for diverse roles in clinical practice, community mental health, and organizational settings. This program blends rigorous theoretical grounding in foundations, history, and neurosciences with practical skills in psychometrics, research methodology, diagnosis, and treatment. Through specialized pathways in Psychological & Behavioral Health or Community Mental Health including cultural psychology, epidemiology, intervention systems, and health communication, one develops competencies to address India's growing mental health needs. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning via internships and research, ensuring you emerge as a skilled, ethical, and research-ready psychologist capable of designing and delivering effective psychological interventions in hospitals, clinics, schools, NGOs, corporates and various communities.
This MA Psychology program envisions a future where mental health is accessible, equitable, and integrated into all spheres of human life. We aim to cultivate a cadre of compassionate, competent, research and trauma informed psychologists who can address India's diverse mental health challenges through evidence-based practice, culturally sensitive interventions, and community-engaged scholarship. The program will be a leader in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among psychology, medicine, public health, and social sciences, producing graduates who not only deliver effective clinical and counseling services but also contribute to policy, program design, and mental health advocacy.
